OUR STORY

As a Thai born Kiwi, we were always on the hunt for Thai street food, in search of the best Thai food in Auckland.
In January 2018 Kiin Thai Underground Kitchen started operating as a family owned and operated takeaway/restaurant, with a very plain and minimal fit out people would often confuse us for a cafe on 699 Mount Eden Road, Mount Eden, Auckland. Somkiat Chatthai (The Father In-Law) in charge of our kitchen, while Yok working in Accounts, and myself(Bon) working in IT during the day, and restaurant in the evenings.

the food may be fantastic, but no one knew we existed for a long 2-3 years and it was brutal, whilst business wasn’t all booming at the start we had to find ways to promote and differentiate ourselves. we initially started with Weekends only special menus, that eventually grew to an everyday monthly special and we operated on that model right up until 24th Sept 2023, we started be known by word of mouth for some very unique dishes that was never seen before in Auckland such as the Som Tum Platter, Pork Pad Kra Pao Jumbo, Raw Prawn Salad, Fried Wonton Dry Tom Yum, and seasonal mango with butterfly peas infused sticky rice

August 2023 we made the leap and signed a new lease to relocate Kiin to a larger location on 360C Dominion Road, Mount Eden, Auckland. First opening day at the new location was 29th September 2023,  we also dropped the “underground” from our name to Kiin Thai Kitchen hence the kitchen is no longer underground.
